General Information

University Hospital & Clinics

University Hospital & Clinics (UHC) is a full-service, acute care hospital, licensed for 116 beds. We serve Acadiana’s uninsured and under-insured population as well as those with private insurance. As an academic medical center, we are a destination of choice for exceptional healthcare, offering a wide breadth of medical services and experience. We are a teaching hospital and a leader in training the physicians of tomorrow. We are committed to providing the best care to our patients and helping them live their best lives.

We house a learning resource center to support the training, continuing education, research and clinical responsibilities of healthcare providers throughout the 13-parish region of southwest Louisiana. UHC provides multiple specialty services with board-certified medical staff working alongside our physicians sharing expertise and experiences to develop an individualized plan of care for our patients.

UHC serves the region as its primary Graduate Medical Education center by training residents and fellows - cultivating physicians for the future. Graduate Medical Education (GME) refers to any type of formal medical education pursued after earning an M.D. or D.O. degree in the United States. This education includes internship, residency, subspecialty and fellowship programs, and leads to state licensure and board certification. To read more about this program, click here.

University Hospitals & Clinic offers an Urgent Care Walk-In Clinic that accepts Medicaid as well as private insurance. It is located in Building 10 behind the main hospital.
