Membership Corporation & Board of Trustees

Lafayette General Health is held in trust for the people of the community by its membership body composed of local citizens. The Membership Body is charged with overseeing the health system to assure that, from the community’s standpoint, we have the facilities, personnel and services to provide excellent diagnostic, medical, surgical and hospital care. Nearly 100 volunteers serve without compensation for up to two successive five-year terms each.

Those elected from the Membership Body to the Board of Trustees serve as the governing body. The Board consists of outstanding community leaders who give generously of their time, talents, and resources in formulating and directing health system policy. The members, chosen by and from among the Membership Body, constitute the Board of Trustees. They serve overlapping terms of three years and are replaced upon expiration of terms by action of the corporation at its annual meeting in February.

The Board, in turn, annually elects officers, President, Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer. A rotation system is in effect which aims at securing the services of every member of the corporation to the Board in the course of time. The Board of Trustees meets monthly to give direction to the health system and to approve policies and procedures presented by the President. They provide feedback and direction and make operational decisions with the health system's administrative team.  

Committees of the Board and the health system’s medical and nursing staffs meet regularly to review policies, assess needs, and transmit recommendations to the Board for action. There are no paid members of the Board and no stockholders to whom dividends are paid.
