LGMC awarded certification as
Primary Stroke Center

The Stroke Center at Lafayette General Medical Center specializes in the comprehensive assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with stroke symptoms. LGMC offers a team of dedicated professionals who are highly skilled and dedicated to improving the care and ultimate outcome for stroke patients though a rapid triage response, evidence based treatment approaches, patient/family support and ongoing stroke education.

Lafayette General Medical Center was awarded The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ for certification as a Primary Stroke Center.

An enhanced alliance between The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) became effective February 1, 2012. On that date, the LGMC's certification as a Primary Stroke Center met the approval of not only The Joint Commission, but the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

With seven neurologists and nine neurosurgeons on staff, backed by a host of critical care specialists, Lafayette General continues to work diligently to ensure that stroke protocols meet national benchmarks for best practices.

LGMC's Stroke Program offers the full continuum of care from the Emergency Department all the way to rehabilitation at Lafayette General Medical Center's Rehabilitation Unit. A Stroke Support Group meets in the hospital’s Owen Auditorium at 3pm on the second Tuesday of every month.
