It's important to us at Lafayette General that Women's Services span the continuum of age and health care needs, from teen years to post-menopausal. We recognize that women today are taking more responsibility for not only their own health and well-being, but that of their family members, from children to elderly relatives. Our educational programs provide women of all ages information on topics such as pre-conception planning, breastfeeding, menopause, osteoporosis, coping with stress in the workplace, and starting over as widows and divorcees, among other subjects. That's in addition to our very progressive medical and surgical offerings. We also provide referral services to community outreach programs for women and children.

Obstetrics

We begin with preconception planning and prenatal education during a woman's childbearing years. Our wide range of family-centered programs help expectant parents (and any siblings) prepare for their new additions, and are offered free of charge. When it's time for delivery, LGMC counts (as you can) on the most highly skilled obstetrical and neonatal staff for full-service medical support not offered elsewhere in Acadiana. Our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is staffed by Board-certified perinatologists, neonatologists and pediatric nurses specially trained to care for high risk/low birth weight infants. In fact, because of that expertise, we serve as the regional transport center for hospitals within a 100-mile radius. You have the comfort of knowing that the full backup of all of LGMC's acute care resources are within the same facility. True for moms as well as babies.

Gynecology

It it's not obstetrics you're needing, rest assured we can meet your other needs. Our Burdin Riehl Breast Center operates successfully on the premise that education and early detection are essential. Accredited by the American College of Radiology, the Center makes sure its personnel, equipment and procedures are held to the highest standards of clinical quality and patient satisfaction. We provide high quality mammograms, including the latest non-surgical, minimally invasive stereotactic breast biopsies. Other procedures - from cardiac to oncology - are available on inpatient and outpatient bases as your doctor recommends.
