Promoting good health through education, attention
to lifestyle and specialized physical activity is the focus of Lafayette
General's highly-regarded Wellness Center. Located in the Grant Molett
Medical Arts Center, adjacent to the LGMC campus at 441 Heymann Blvd.,
it houses a fully-equipped and modern gym, massage tables, aerobics
areas, treatment and exam rooms, and meeting space for educational
classes. The Center is staffed by a registered nurse, exercise physiologists
and aerobic and fitness instructors who use an individual's health
risk profile to develop individualized exercise programs for each
Wellness member.
Adult Services
LGMC offers several types and levels of aerobics -- slide, low-impact,
intermediate, senior aerobics, youth fitness and body sculpting.
Massage and aromatherapy services include on-site and off-site offerings
provided by state-licensed and specially trained therapists. Other
services include:
Health Risk Assessments-
include a detailed personal medical history and various
health screenings (blood pressure analysis, cholesterol profile,
blood glucose screening, hemoccult testing, fitness evaluation
with or without EKG, strength and flexibility testing, body composition
testing.
Smokeless- a smoking
cessation program presenting more than 600 techniques and concepts
with a 95% success rate.
Stress Management- classes
covering Understanding and Evaluating Stress Levels, Thinking
Differently, Types A&B Behaviors, Managing Stress at Work,
Communication and Stress, Time Management and Life Stages.
Healthy Life Weight-
a 10-week session offering a lifestyle approach to losing weight
that is both gradual and sensible, taught by a registered dietitian,
an exercise physiologist and a behavior modification educator.
Personal Training- provides individual
exercise instruction to achieve specific goals. We have
certified personal trainers ready to help you.
Sports Specific Training- is an exercise
program for athletes participating in organized, competitive and
recreational sports. It is individualized training to enhance
strength and endurance.
Customized health and wellness lectures.
Anyone 16 or older may join the Wellness Center and take advantage
of discounts on special programs and seminars.

Children's Services
The Wellness Center offers an eight month health and
wellness program developed for children. Classes consist of
creative movement activities, step and slide aerobics and resistance
training. Various professionals in the health field present
information to the youth throughout the year on wellness and nutrition
topics. This program is offered not only to Wellness members,
but to any child between the ages of 7 and 11. Classes begin
in September and end in April. They are held on Mondays and
Wednesdays in the aerobics room from 4:30-5:15pm. Registration
fees include pre- and post-fitness evaluations, materials and supplies,
and two field trips.
The Wellness Center also offers a Summer Kids' Camp
for children ages 6 to 11 each June and July. The camp features step
and slide aerobics, nutrition lectures, muscle strengthening, safety
games and creative movement activities taught by healthcare professionals.
The cost is $120 per camp ($12 discount for Wellness members). Classes
are held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the LGMC Aerobics Room at the
Wellness Center, 441 Heymann Blvd.
