Dr. Gachassin is the Medical Director of our weight loss surgery program at Lafayette General Medical Center. He assisted in the start up of the bariatric surgery program in 2004 and has been performing weight loss surgery for over 13 years. Dr. Gachassin practices both advanced, general and bariatric surgery in Lafayette. He is a native of Lafayette and resides with his wife and three sons.

Dr. Eschete joined our bariatric surgery program in 2009. He is a highly skilled and trained bariatric surgeon. Following his medical school and residency at LSU, he completed an advanced fellowship training program in New York with a very busy bariatric hospital. Dr. Eschete practices both advanced laparoscopic, general and bariatric surgery in Lafayette. He is a native of Louisiana and excited to be back home as well as practicing in south Louisiana.

Dr. Autin joined our bariatric surgery program in 2015. He is fellowship trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgeon. Among his many procedures are gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, lap band removal and endoscopic revisions which he mastered during an advanced fellowship training program in New York. Dr. Autin is a native of Louisiana and proud to be back home serving residents across Acadiana.



Non-Surgical Weight Loss

weight loss surgeons; weight loss doctorBenjamin Doga, M.D., oversees the program at Acadiana Weight Loss Surgery, located at Lafayette General Surgical Hospital. Dr. Doga is certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Scheduled visits occur every Tuesday and include sessions with a dietitian, behavior modification educator and exercise physiologist. The goal is to help people safely lose weight and keep it off by learning new food choices and habits. It is essentially a lifestyle modification program that pursues the best course for each individual.

Participants can choose a three-month, six-month or one-year plan. Dr. Doga will evaluate patients to help determine their best options, which can include meal replacement and/or pharmaceuticals to help suppress appetite, and participants will receive constant support from professionals throughout the program. In addition, the support staff works with LGMC Wellness at the Townhouse fitness center for exercise and training regimens and routines.

Bariatric Program Manager
Brooke is a Registered Nurse. She earned her Bachelor of Nursing in 2000 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Her main responsibility at LGMC is to manage the bariatric program. She assists patients with all aspects of their bariatric care. She navigates patients through their hospital experience, ensuring excellent care pre-op, intra-op and post-op. She also coordinates pre and post operative education and organizes the weight loss surgery support group. Brooke first began working with the bariatric population in 2003. She obtained her Certification in Bariatric Nursing in 2013. Brooke finds her work very rewarding and enjoys watching the transformation of her patients post-operatively. We are glad to have her on our team at LGMC.

Amber Saucier, RD, LDN, MS
Registered Dietitian & Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist with the State of Louisiana
Amber plays a vital role on the team by working with our weight loss surgery patients on proper diet both before and after surgery. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2005, completed a postgraduate dietetic internship at Louisiana Tech University in 2006, and attained a Master of Science in Nutrition from Louisiana Tech University in 2012. She has worked with bariatric surgery patients since 2004 in her undergraduate internship through the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In 2013, she completed necessary requirements to receive a certificate of training in Adult Weight Management. Amber has been an employee of LGMC since 2007.

Kate Rountree
Registered Dietitian
Kate recently joined the team to assist with the medically supervised weight loss program. She received a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Food from Louisiana State University and completed a post graduate dietetic internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She has been working in the specialty of bariatric nutrition for 10 years and has assisted surgical weight loss patients in Birmingham, New Orleans and the Acadiana areas. Prior to joining Lafayette General Health, Kate primarily educated and counseled pre- and post-operative bariatric patients through her private practice which was formed in 2009. She has received the certificate of training in Adult Weight Management and is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, The Obesity Society, and Louisiana Dietetic Association. She has held various positions in these organizations and presented at several academic meetings on the specialty of nutrition for the bariatric patient.

Nichole Barras, BS, CLC
Behavior Modification Educator
Nichole attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Life Sciences. Upon graduating from ULL, she performed an internship and began working part-time for Lafayette General Medical Center's Wellness Department. After working many years in the field of fitness and marketing, she returned to Lafayette General to work in the bariatric program. She is a vital part of our multidisciplinary team and sees patients before and after surgery. Nichole is very passionate about educating and helping people endure a healthy lifestyle. Her current certifications include: The American Institute for Preventative Medicine Program Instructor Certification, American Association of Lifestyle Counselors Certification and the National Academy of Sports Medicine. 

Jessica Pruitt
Bariatric Office Coordinator
Jessica received her bachelor's degree from McNeese State University in 2012 in General Studies, with a minor in Psychology. Her responsibilities include answering phone calls, making calls to patients to remind them of their appointments, scheduling patients for seminars and appointments with the bariatric team, office organization and working with the team in assisting various departmental duties. She also scans patient information in their charts and takes payments for surgery, nutrition classes, vitamins and bad debt. We are proud to have Jessica on our bariatric team at LGMC!

Amanda Comeaux, LPN
Surgical Clinical Reviewer
Amanda is responsible for collecting and reporting surgical and follow-up data to the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Amanda also coordinates the Non-Surgical Weight Loss program. She graduated from LTC-Lafayette, Practical Nursing program in 2001. Amanda has been employed at LGMC since 2006 and joined the bariatric team in 2013.

Tiffany McZeal, BS
Bariatric Patient Advocate

Tiffany attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management majoring in Insurance and Risk Management. Upon graduating ULL, she immediately entered the medical industry. Her responsibilities include: reducing the delay of surgery, maximizing patient experience within the program and coordinates all pre-operative care for bariatric patients. Tiffany verifies insurance benefits for each patient, schedules all bariatric consultations, pre-operative requirements and surgeries. She enjoys helping people and is happy to work with this well-organized program. She is planning to return to school to receive a Master’s Degree in Business specializing in Health Information Management.
