The
Pavilion for women and children offers an extensive support system for
breastfeeding mothers. We have two internationally certified lactation
consultants on staff, as well as nurses trained as breastfeeding
educators. In addition to individual assistance, our Center has
booklets, books and VHS tapes on successful breastfeeding tips that
moms can access at any time.
Breastfeeding mothers who must
return to work will find a large collection of various pumps and
supplies, including hospital-grade rental pumps, small manual pumps,
single electric pumps and even double pumps. You will find all of
these pumps and more breastfeeding supplies on display in The Boutique
gift shop, located on the second floor.
Lafayette General has
earned The GIFT certification from the Louisiana Maternal & Child
Health Coalition; the only Acadiana hospital to do so. The GIFT
(Guided Infant Feeding Techniques) program encourages breastfeeding,
through education and support, to improve the health of mothers and
infants. To receive this designation, LGMC has implemented policies
and procedures to support the GIFT’s Ten Steps to Successful
Breastfeeding, which are based on World Health Organization/UNICEF
guidelines.
