About Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital

“Serving you better because WE CARE”

Opened in 1960 as a focal point for health care in Vermilion Parish, Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital has been dedicated to taking care of the health needs of the people in the communities we serve. As we continue to improve and update our technology and services, we will remain focused on providing the best possible care for you, your family, your friends and your neighbors.

We are a 35-bed critical access hospital, which maintains a staffed 24-hour Emergency Department, including a staffed physician. Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital has state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including CT scanner, digital mammograms and high density equipment for endoscopic procedures. We offer surgery (in and out patient), pharmacy, swing bed and monitored bed services. Our Outpatient services include radiology, nuclear medicine, teleradiology services, CT scanning, ultrasound studies, nuclear imaging, bone density, laboratory procedures, respiratory therapy, physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

In 1994 the hospital remodeled the north wing of its facility and turned the wing into a Behavioral Health Unit. The unit is a 10-bed psychiatric inpatient facility located within Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. The Behavioral Health Unit is presently being managed by Compass Behavioral Center.

In the 2002, Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital and Lafayette General Medical Center formed an affiliation between hospitals to strengthen its ability to offer top-quality health care, through a partnership that enabled AKMH to draw on the resources of a larger hospital. The affiliation holds strong today and benefits Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital and its surrounding community.
