Lafayette General Health (LGH) is a healthcare system striving to build a regional healthcare network that delivers excellence in care and outcomes. LGH serves the south-central region of Louisiana by aligning with facilities across the designated cultural area known as Acadiana.
LGH’s flagship hospital, Lafayette General Medical Center, in operation since 1911, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation that does not pay out any revenue to shareholders as for-profits do. LGH also owns or manages Lafayette General Surgical Hospital, St. Martin Hospital, University Hospital & Clinics and Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital, and has several affiliations with facilities across Acadiana.
The main facilities of LGH are comprised of five hospitals, each serving various needs and demographics.
The flagship of the LGH system is Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC), founded in 1911. Lafayette General Medical Center's main location staffs 342 beds, making it the largest full-service acute care medical center in Acadiana. The main campus, located in the Oil Center business district of Lafayette, includes more than one million square feet of space. Its Southwest campus on the corner of Congress St. and Ambassador Caffery Pkwy., staffs an additional 111 beds, for a hospital total of 477 staffed beds. University Hospital & Clinics, located at the corner of Bertrand Drive and Congress Street in Lafayette, is also a full-service acute care center offering a variety of specialized outpatient clinics. Also in the Oil Center, inside the Medical Office Building at 1000 Pinhook Rd., Lafayette General Surgical Hospital is a short-stay surgical hospital and medical office complex that is part of a joint venture of Lafayette General Medical Center and local physicians.
Since 1969, St. Martin Hospital has served the people of St. Martin Parish from its Breaux Bridge location. Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital was founded in 1958 in Kaplan. It provides Vermilion Parish residents a general acute care facility offering emergency and outpatient services, including, among others, general surgery, gynecology, pediatrics and imaging services. Acadia General Hospital serves a growing Acadia Parish population of approximately 62,000. Lafayette General Southwest (LGSW) is a full-service, 128-staffed bed acute care facility. LGSW serves as an extension of LGMC’s main campus in the Oil Center and on November 6, 2015 with approximately 515 employees.
Lafayette General Health’s network of professional centers strives to bring the most modern and technically advanced facilities to the region, and employ some of the top physicians in their respective fields. Our specialty centers are tailored to offer services in Acadiana, often found only at renowned out-of-state medical centers, so that you can stay close to home and be cared for by the medical staff you trust.
Lafayette General Health has affiliations with several entities spanning across South Louisiana to offer top-level management and high-end services. LGH has Cancer Center of Acadiana clinics in Lafayette, Mamou, Abbeville and Crowley to offer those areas local access to oncology services usually found in large cities.
LGH also offers management and consultation expertise to Opelousas General Health System, Cardiovascular Institute of the South at Lafayette General, Bunkie General Hospital and Franklin Foundation Hospital. Those facilities can model their care under the best practices forged at the main facilities of Lafayette General Health.
LGH believes in improving population health, and that starts at the neighborhood level, which is why LGH finds it important to grow and network with as many community hospitals as possible.
