Rep. Boustany visits with LGMC officials
U.S. Representative Charles
Boustany Jr. stopped by Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) on Tuesday,
August 21 for a discussion with top hospital officials about the status of
health care in America. LGMC
President/CEO, David L. Callecod, FACHE, along with several members of the
hospital’s board of directors and executive team, met for a question and answer
session with Boustany.
Much of the discussion centered on
the enactment of the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) being implemented
through 2014. Boustany forecasted
the consequences if the ACA continues its course to full installation, and what
might happen should the November elections result in a new president or major
change in Congress.
Boustany, a Republican representing
the former 7th Congressional District, is currently seeking election
to the newly redrawn 3rd Congressional District against incumbent
and fellow Republican Jeff Landry of New Iberia.
Boustany was able to discuss
health care as someone who is professionally familiar with the industry. Boustany received his doctorate in
medicine from Louisiana State University and was a former heart surgeon at
Charity Hospital in New Orleans, and opened his practice in Lafayette. Boustany’s father also served as
coroner for Lafayette Parish for many years.
