Free Heart Month Events - 1/28/2010 -

February is Heart Month, and Lafayette General is again teaming up with KATC TV 3 to boost your knowledge of all things heart. Following are the activities we have planned, please click on each event to register online, or call us at 289-8600.
Wednesday, February 10 Know Your Numbers 5:30 – 7 p.m. • Owen Auditorium A panel of LGMC experts will discuss the importance of keeping these important numbers—blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and BMI— in line to lower your risk of heart disease.
Free coupons for cholesterol screening will be given to the first 50 people to RSVP.
Bring in your blood pressure monitor, starting at 4:30 p.m., to check its accuracy against hospital monitors.
Thursday, February 18 Heart Healthy Cooking 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. • Owen Auditorium A dietitian and LGMC’s chef will prepare a heart-healthy meal, and will explain what it means to cook ‘heart healthy’ and tips for success.
Wednesday, February 24 Varicose Veins 12 noon • Owen Auditorium Dr. Chris LaGraize, vascular surgeon, will talk about the signs, symptoms and treatment of varicose veins.

Friday, February 26 Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) 12 noon • Owen Auditorium Dr. Charles Mayes, cardiologist, will talk about PVD symptoms, screening and treatment, as well as the connection between PVD and heart disease.
