Mayci Breaux Scholarship Fund
The Mayci Breaux Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Mayci Breaux, a radiologic technology student whose life was taken during the Grand Theatre shooting on July 23, 2015. The scholarship will be awarded annually to the student(s) exemplifying Mayci’s academic excellence and love for life.
What started as a $100 donation from a radiology technician in Montana reached over $50,000 in less than one year. Donations to Lafayette General Foundation (LGF) for the scholarship, with the cooperation of Mayci’s family, came from Lafayette General Health employees, local businesses and other philanthropic organizations to honor Mayci’s legacy as a rad-tech student.
Mayci attended orientation at Lafayette General Medical Center on June 18, 2015 in preparation to begin her clinicals at the facility. She had known she wanted to be an ultrasound and radiologic technologist since she was in Junior High School. Her interest in science and anatomy inspired her to achieve academic excellence.
Mayci was a softhearted person who put everyone and everything before herself. Her love for taking care of people, especially babies, was in her heart. She worked very hard to be the best she could be. But, above all, her love of family, friends, classmates and her radiologic technology teachers, was her guiding light. All in all, Mayci was one of a kind.
