What We Do

There are four funds that make up Lafayette General Foundation:

Traditional Foundation Fund

Active in all the traditional things you’d expect from a Foundation, as well as more cutting-edge enterprises.

  • Events
A number of events are held by the Foundation throughout the year. By partnering with different entities inside and outside of the hospital system, monies are raised to assist Lafayette General Health in procuring necessary assets. You can view all of the events the Foundation is invloved in by visiting the "Our Events" section of our website.
  • Scholarships
One of the newest scholarships is the Alana Brooke Duhon Memorial ScholarshipThe $500 scholarship encourages eligible North Vermillion High School (NVHS) softball team members to pursue an academic career in the medical field.

One of the Foundation's scholarships is offered via the
Mayci Breaux Scholarship Fund.  The scholarship will be awarded annually to the student(s) exemplifying Mayci’s academic excellence and love for life.

The Foundation offers a number of different scholarships, including an employee scholarship fund that goes to employees and their families looking to better themselves through education. The number of scholarships offered is dependent upon the amount of money raised within the fiscal year.

  • Grant Seeking
LGF seeks grant opportunities from local, regional and national funders on behalf of the health system. Grants received fund programs (e.g. cancer screenings), technologies (e.g. NICViews), studies (e.g. drug trials) as well as equipment (e.g. supply carts, wheelchairs, feeding pumps, etc.).
  • Planned Giving
Planned Giving is an opportunity for you to leave an indelible mark on LGH and make a difference. By choosing any of the numerous ways to give back to the health system, you are ensuring the health of Lafayette General as well as its patients.
  • La Place de Vie
Located just off the main entrance of Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC), La Place de Vie provides an outdoor space for patients, families, and employees to find fresh air and peace of mind. The courtyard hosts flag raising ceremonies in conjunction with Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) and Southern Eye Bank to honor those who donated their cornea, tissue and organs.
  • Grateful Patients
Our "Grateful Patients" program provides patients who have experienced excellent service within the health system a method of giving back.

Grateful Patients, Melissa and Ryan Decell, had hopes of meeting their son Clark alive when he was born, despite his terminal diagnosis. While he only lived for 59 minutes, the CuddleCot allowed the Decells to spend much more time with their baby before leaving the hospital. Through their grief, they partnered with the Lafayette General Foundation to raise money to help more grieving families through their donation of “A Cuddle from Clark” to LGMC.
  • Employee Giving

The Foundation's “We Give” Employee Giving Campaign supports funding for programs, services and initiatives across the health system. Employees that choose to donate are entered into prize drawings, a special way to express our gratitude to those who have already given so much to LGH.

Innovation Fund

The Foundation’s Healthcare Innovation Fund was capitalized through a $1.5M investment from Lafayette General Health (LGH) and $1M from the Louisiana Seed Capital Program under the Louisiana Economic Development Corporation (LEDC). LEDC allows investment funds such as HIF to leverage the Federal Treasury Department State Small Business Credit Initiative funds with private funds to invest in seed and/or early stage business located in Louisiana. We've invested in companies like Compliance Partners, CirraGroup, SharePort, RDNote and HealthLoop.

Real Estate Fund

The Lafayette General Foundation Real Estate Fund, LP, is an investment program targeting medical, commercial and multi-family residential existing and build-to-suit developmental properties and redevelopment projects. The focus will be on properties that complement the facilities of LGH, its affiliates and seeks to further the goals and objectives of LGF.

Research Fund

The Lafayette General Foundation Research Fund invests in promising, state-of-the-art technology and programs that might lead to the development of a cure for diseases and terminal illnesses. For example, those making a donation to Cancer Center of Acadiana (CCA) may go through the Foundation's Research Fund.
