The Stroke Center
at Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) received a Bronze Award under the American
Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s "Get With The Guidelines®”
program. The award recognizes
hospitals that demonstrate a high level of compliance with certain criteria
outlined within the program.
"This was a
coordinated team effort, led by our physicians,” says Cathy Palmer, Director of
Ortho-Neuro-Post Acute Services at LGMC.
"We’re very excited. It
truly does improve patient care,” she says of the program.
Lafayette General Medical Center was awarded The
Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ for certification as an Advanced
Primary Stroke Center. LGMC's
certification as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center met the approval of not only
The Joint Commission, but the American Heart Association and American Stroke
Association and signified that LGMC is providing the "next generation of stroke
care.”
A Bronze Award
recognizes a performance of 90-consecutive days with at least 85% compliance under
seven guidelines that measure Patient Management
Tools such as timely treatment, smoking cessation advice or other
discharge criteria.
Palmer is
optimistic LGMC will continue its performance streak, which could garner the
hospital a higher medal in future results. Silver and Gold awards are given for 12- and 24-consecutive
months, respectively. "We will
strive to continue and hopefully get a silver because we are persistently
getting quality outcomes for patients in our community.”
