Dr. Mohamad Allam Named Medical Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery Services - 1/13/2009 -

Lafayette General Medical Center is pleased to announce that Dr. Mohamad A. Allam, cardiovascular/thoracic surgeon, is the new Medical Director for Cardiothoracic Surgery Services.  He will oversee LGMC’s cardiothoracic surgery services, including robotic surgery.  Dr. Allam is trained in minimally invasive surgery techniques, including the use of the da Vinci surgical robot.  

“As a surgeon with experience in minimally invasive heart procedures, Dr. Allam was the perfect fit to expand all aspects of our heart surgery program,” says David Callecod, president/CEO.  “His skill and leadership will be an outstanding asset for our heart center, and for our community.”

Dr. Allam will receive additional training on the da Vinci in order to perform the maze procedure, an intricate surgery used to treat atrial fibrillation.  In addition to adult cardiac surgery, he has a special interest in thoracic oncology, and benign and malignant esophageal disease.

Dr. Allam is currently in practice at the Cardiovascular Clinic in Lafayette.  He completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship and general surgery residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and an internal medicine internship at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia.
