Bariatric Surgery Program is Set Apart by Patient Care - 05/02/2007 -
|
Lafayette General has added laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery to the list of services the hospital offers, giving patients with life-threatening obesity another option for treatment. The program is distinctive because of extensive follow-up care.
"The big difference in our services will be the integrative approach to care, from preop to postop, and continued support needed for life change," explained Lisa Richard, RN, program coordinator. "Bariatric surgery is an elective surgery, but it is life-changing. Patients will be required to go through a lot of body image and behavior modification, as well as follow-up care for a year after surgery."
Dr. Philip Gachassin is certified in bariatric surgery, and Dr. James Garcelon will serve as his first assistant. They are supported by a multi-disciplinary team including Richard, an exercise physiologist, dietitian, certified lifestyle counselor, and specially trained nurses and surgery staff.
Free informational sessions are held monthly from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in LGMC’s Owens Auditorium (across from the cafeteria). Dr. Gachassin will be on hand to give more details about the program and the procedure. Call 289-8484 to find out the next session date and to reserve your seat. |
