How about Erin Shipley, staff RN in ED!! She is THE reason the ED terminal cleaning was completed, but that is not the most amazing part. Ever since our last LDI, many leaders had been trying to facilitate a "good" terminal cleaning and waxing schedule for the ED... emphesis on schedule, not actually doing it, just the scheduling part. Well, in early February, Erin asked to join one of the new PATIENT SATISFACTION teams; note, she was not "volunteered" by her manager, she actually asked to join. At her very first meeting, when she listened to survey responses regarding cleanliness, she took immediate action. Within 2 hours of leaving the meeting, she had a terminal clean and wax schedule typed up and agreed upon by the evening shift Housekeeping AD. She facilitated patient room swapping and had the staff buy into the process. Terminal cleaning started that very night. Even better, every room was terminally cleaned, with floors stripped and waxed in only two weeks time. Erin made it happen. Not a manager, not a director, not a senior leader, ERIN, a staff nurse with a passion to make a difference, and make that difference TODAY, not three months from now.
Because of Erin's commitment to her department, her teamwork approach with housekeeping, and her spirity for excellence, the ED now has a regular terminal cleaning schedule that is "just a part of everyday practice."
