The Radiation Oncology Center at Lafayette General Medical Center is a front-runner in the treatment of disease using radiation therapy. The hospital has invested in the most advanced equipment on the market to assure our patients of the best radiation oncology treatment in Acadiana.
The Team
A team of highly skilled and certified doctors, nurses, radiation therapists and physics staff provide safe, effective, quality cancer care. An interdisciplinary approach with other health professionals such as social workers, case managers and registered dietitians provide individualized care to meet the needs of each oncology patient.

The Treatment
The Radiation Oncology Center offers highly advanced treatment through the use of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). The Center has two photon linear accelerators which provide a fast dose rate so patients spend less time in therapy and are highly accurate. In fact, IMRT can deliver beams the size of a pencil tip, sparing normal tissue and resulting in fewer side effects from treatment.
Our brachytherapy capabilities include high dose remote brachytherapy and surgical implants of radioactive substances to deliver treatment directly to the tumor site. In many instances, radioactive implants combined with external beam radiation oncology deliver the best chance of cure or control of tumors.

Lafayette General offers a new ray of hope in the treatment of cancer at the CyberKnife Center - Louisiana.
