St. Martin Hospital holds ribbon-cutting ceremony

BREAUX BRIDGE, LA – St. Martin Hospital held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, May 15 to formally open its new Outpatient Services Wing. The 5,712 sq. ft. addition will host a variety of services, including new laboratory and radiology departments. The expansion will feature a new parking, entrance and registration area on the northeast (rear) part of the hospital off of Champagne Boulevard.

Services offered in the new wing include ancillary/laboratory testing, blood banking, cardiopulmonary/respiratory services, infusion therapy, digital mammography, nuclear medicine, radiology and ultrasound. The addition also includes a new patient waiting area and employee break/dining area.

St. Martin Hospital CEO/VP Katie Hebert says the new addition will help increase patient processing volume and capacity as well as treatment volume and capacity.

The project, which broke ground in August 2012, is still in the process of constructing a new Emergency Department to include more exam rooms, a Fast Track area and a larger waiting room.

Since partnering with Lafayette General Medical Center in 2000, with full ownership occurring in 2009, St. Martin Hospital has seen a flourish of new activities surrounding its campus, formerly known as Gary Memorial Hospital.

Hebert says the hospital has recruited an OB/GYN to now provide women’s services, completed another remodeling project last year, and could bring more specialists in at some point in the future. Cardiovascular Institute of the South at Lafayette General opened an office on the Breaux Bridge campus earlier this year, providing vital heart services parish-wide.
