Melissa Hewitt had just brought a home-cooked meal to fellow employees on her Saturday off. That’s just the beginning. When driving away from the hospital, with her daughter, she discovered an elderly man lying on the street nearby. Melissa pulled her car off to the side of the road. The man had apparently fallen and, consequently, cut his eye pretty badly, evidenced by the amount of blood. To bring another angle to the story, his special needs daughter was with him. Melissa called Security to report the incident and rested the man’s head on her lap while waiting for help. She sent her own daughter inside to get some paper towels to compress the wound. Meanwhile, the man’s daughter was escorted to her mother’s room, a patient on the 4th floor. Connie Joseph, a nurse, was on her way to Wellness at the Townhouse and stopped to help when she saw what was happening. Melissa stayed with the gentleman until nurses from the Emergency Department showed up to help. Soon after, Acadian Ambulance arrived to take him to the ED.
