LGMC Welcomes First Residents
Monday morning, 22 residents arrived at Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC), marking its first official day as a teaching hospital. The residents were greeted in the lobby to a standing ovation of LGMC administrative staff, employees and physicians.
Lafayette General Health President and CEO David L. Callecod, FACHE, and LGMC CEO Patrick Gandy led the procession into the hospital after giving the residents a brief orientation in an adjacent building.
Cheering workers lined the main lobby corridor as the residents made their way towards the physician lounge, where a brief reception was held. After the reception, the residents reported to various areas of the hospital for computer training or clinical assignments.
LGMC becoming a teaching hospital was part of its agreement signed in May to manage University Hospital & Clinics. Residents have received a medical degree and can practice medicine under the supervision of licensed physicians.
