LGMC Lands Several Top Spots in The Times “Best of” Poll

Acadiana loves Lafayette General Health (LGH) and Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC). That’s the takeaway from the latest “Best of Acadiana” readership survey conducted by The Times of Acadiana.

Lafayette General was voted “The Best” in seven different categories, an unprecedented accomplishment in that poll. With over 500,000 votes cast in various categories, first-place finishes were:

· Best Hospital (LGMC)
· Best Emergency Room (LGMC)
· Best Cancer Care (LGH)
· Best Place to Work (LGH)
· Best Facebook Page (LGH)

LGMC was also runner-up for “Best Place to Have a Baby” and LGH’s Family Health Plaza placed 3rd for “Best Walk-in Clinic/Urgent Care.” LGMC is the only Lafayette hospital with adult and neonatal ICU services under one roof, meaning mother and baby do not have to be separated if extra care is needed.

This year’s poll marks the ninth time since 2005 that LGMC has been voted Best Hospital, and the ninth-consecutive year for landing Best Emergency Room. In 2013, LGMC had the fifth-busiest ER in Louisiana.

This was the first year LGH, the second-largest employer in Lafayette Parish, was named “Best Place to Work.” Cancer Center of Acadiana, named “Best Cancer Care,” currently has locations at Lafayette General Medical Center, Abbeville General Hospital, Acadia General Hospital and Savoy Medical Center. CCA boasts the largest infusion center in the state and the first and only Lung Mass Clinic in Louisiana.

“Best Facebook Page” was a new category for The Times in this year’s poll. Lafayette General Health’s Facebook page has over 6,100 “Likes.”

“We are truly humbled that the people of Acadiana have given us this tremendous distinction,” says Patrick W. Gandy, Jr., CEO of Lafayette General Medical Center. “I know it means a lot to our employees, who dedicate so much of themselves to their passion and work so hard caring for people. This really is a gratifying reward.”

The Times announced the winners of the poll Wednesday night at its annual “Best of” party hosted this year at The Victorian event venue in Broussard, where special early editions were handed out to guests in advance of Thursday’s weekly publication.

“We want to thank the people of Acadiana for their outstanding support,” says Gandy. “We promise to continue pushing ourselves to stay the best, and to do even better in next year’s poll.”
