Lafayette General Southwest Receives the 2017 Women’s Choice Award® as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Emergency Care
Lafayette General Southwest (LGSW), a campus of Lafayette General Medical Center, has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Emergency Care by Women’s Choice Award®, America’s trusted referral source for the best in healthcare. Emergency Room waiting times are one of the key measurements for the award.
LGSW is one of 320 Women’s Choice Award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the organization’s highest standards for emergency care in the U.S. This evidence-based designation is the only award identifying the country’s best healthcare facilities based on robust criteria that considers female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and what women say they want from a hospital.
“We remain committed to our mission To Restore, Maintain and Improve Health,” says Patrick Gandy, CEO - Lafayette General Medical Center. “LGSW has worked diligently to improve its services and this award is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”
The award recognizes excellence in emergency care based on several process of care measures focused on the time patients spent in the emergency department, including:
- Time to admit patients
- Time from admission to room
- Door to diagnosis
Criteria for selecting LGSW as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Emergency Care also included the average time before outpatients with chest pain or a possible heart attack received an ECG, and the average time patients with broken bones had to wait before getting pain medication. Awarded hospitals represent those with emergency departments with average measure times in the highest 25th to 50th percentile in the country.
“Emergency departments can be very stressful environments, particularly for the elderly or a mother with a sick or injured child,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. “Women make over 80% of healthcare decisions and want to be confident that they know which emergency departments in their communities will take care of their loved ones quickly and with the best possible care.”
