The Funds for Safety Grant Program was created in 2012 by the Louisiana Hospital Association Trust Fund to help fund its members’ initiatives to improve patient or visitor safety. Since its creation, the grant program has awarded more than $1.7 million to fund approximately 100 unique projects for facilities in Louisiana.

Local Neurologist One of Few In Country With Certification

Kevin R. Hargrave, M.D., Medical Director of Neuroscience Center of Acadiana at Lafayette General and Co-Medical Director of Sleep Center of Acadiana at Lafayette General, recently received the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS) Neuroimaging Certification. Only 26 physicians in the entire country passed the most recent exam, demonstrating expert knowledge in their subsequent areas. Dr. Hargrave now holds the distinction of being the only physician in Acadiana, and one of six in the entire state, to be considered a UCNS neuroimaging Diplomate. While there are over 16,000 neurologists currently practicing in the U.S., only 206 are physician Diplomates certified in Neuroimaging.

CIS Physicians at LGMC are First to Use New Technology

Lafayette General Medical Center is the first hospital in the area to adopt a new technology that saves heart muscle during heart attacks. Traditional methods during cardiac catheterizations restore blood flow to the heart, but the procedure itself can cause damage to the heart muscle. Patients are typically provided with IV medication during and following the procedure to protect the patient. After the procedure, blood thinners are prescribed to dissolve clots and to prevent new clots from forming inside the stent.
