Lafayette General hires top Orthopedic surgeons
Lafayette General Health System strengthened its award-winning orthopedic services with the employment of John P. Schutte, M.D., and E. Scott Yerger, M.D., beginning December 31, 2012.
Dr. Schutte and Dr. Yerger bring a strong reputation as two of the finest orthopedic surgeons in Louisiana. Their employment will help Lafayette General further improve services, quality and patient satisfaction as it relates to orthopedic care.
Dr. Schutte will serve as Principle Medical Director of Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) Orthopedic Services. Dr. Yerger will act as the Medical Director for the total joint subspecialty. Both physicians will assist in the development of clinical pathways and in establishing procedures and clinical progression protocols to ensure the consistency and quality of all orthopedic services. The strength of the partnership lies with Lafayette General's extensive team able to work alongside the physicians to provide in-depth analysis and benchmarking of best practices.

Dr. Schutte is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has been recognized as a Louisiana Top Doctor by Louisiana Life Magazine six times since 2006. Dr. Schutte specializes in Sports Medicine, Arthroscopic Surgery, General Orthopedics and Joint Replacement. He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine (New Orleans) and completed his residency at Charity Hospital (New Orleans). Dr. Schutte fulfilled a Shoulder Surgery Fellowship in London, Ontario, Canada. His professional affiliations include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Lafayette Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, Louisiana Orthopaedic Association, Acadiana Orthopaedic Society (President) and University of Louisiana-Lafayette athletic department team physician.
Dr. Yerger is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and specializes in Joint Replacement, Revision Joint Replacement Surgery, Arthroscopic Surgery of the Hip, Knee and Shoulder and General Orthopedics. He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine (New Orleans). Dr. Yerger completed a General Surgery Internship at the University of South Alabama. He underwent Orthopedic Surgery Residencies at both South Alabama and Louisiana State University Health Science Center (New Orleans) in addition to an Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Yerger is an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Lafayette's University Medical Center.
