A pregnant psych patient was on the Admit Discharge Unit for eight days awaiting placement in a facility that could help her – when Kelsey Shear entered her life. She calmed the woman’s fears and worked tirelessly for hours on the phone trying to find a facility appropriate for her special needs. Kelsey soon built a relationship of trust with the patient, making sure she provided what she could to make the woman comfortable. That included praying with her and bringing her snacks that were not available through dietary. When the patient was told that Kelsey had finally found a facility, she was so grateful that she started to cry and thanked Kelsey for all that she’d done to help. With the facility in New Orleans and knowing that the patient’s children would not be able to visit her there, Kelsey took it a step further. She arranged for the children to visit their mother in the hospital before she left. This is only one example of the care that Kelsey provides to each and every one of her patients on a daily basis.
