Free Health Fair Saturday at Girard Park

La. Rep. Vincent Pierre (District 44) is encouraging Acadiana residents to attend a free upcoming health fair. The second annual Health and Fitness Expo, "Wellness: A Way of Life,” is a wellness program that offers a host of free assessments and consultations.

Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) and University Hospital & Clinics (UHC) are working in conjunction to provide free screenings on Saturday, September 21, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Girard Park.

The following assessments will be provided:

Blood pressure

Heart rate

Body composition

BMI (body mass index)

Waist/hip measurements

Lipid with glucose report

Consultations will include handouts and individual review of results. A lipid profile with glucose report is being offered for free, as UHC will cover the cost. The profile measures total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, risk ratio, and glucose. The results are available within five to seven minutes. It is a non-invasive screening process utilizing a finger stick.

"This is a real opportunity for us to reach out to the community to provide services to people who need them,” says UHC CEO Jared Stark. "We are Acadiana’s community hospital system and believe in promoting community health.”

Rep. Pierre, who has promoted the health fair, views this as a vital community service. "We’d like to thank Lafayette General Health for making their staff available and for contributing the supplies and equipment for this event. This is a great example of our commitment to a united community living healthier lives.”
