Family Medicine Physician to Practice Holistic Medicine


Acadiana now has its first Family Medicine physician that is also board certified in Integrative Holistic Medicine. Elizabeth McLain, M.D., attained her newest board certification from the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine (ABIHM), a nationally recognized certification board.

Integrative Medicine focuses on the relationship between the practitioner and the patient to optimize health and healing solutions based on the patient’s naturalistic needs. Holistic Medicine considers physical, mental and spiritual aspects as important approaches to treatment. Integrative Holistic Medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses care of the whole person: body, mind and spirit.

Specialties in Dr. McLain’s new certification include: Acupuncture, Mind/Body Medicine, Nutrition, Psychiatry and Substance Abuse/Addiction. She will continue to practice Family Medicine, as well.

Dr. McLain, a native of Oakdale, La., has practiced Family Medicine in Lafayette and in Eunice. Since 2011, she has been with Lafayette General Health’s LGMD Physician Group. She earned her Doctorate of Medicine from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.

The American Board of Holistic Medicine was founded in 1996 and officially changed its name to the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine in 2008.
