Catherine Carriere - Receptionist & Research Aide for CCA

A patient of Cancer Center of Acadiana (CCA) at Lafayette General was calling multiple times per day. Answering those calls was Catherine Carriere, receptionist and research aide for CCA. Every day, Catherine took the calls from this patient from Abbeville who could not remember the date/time of their appointment.

Catherine handled each call with patience and kindness. After numerous calls, and being overheard by other workers at CCA, it became obvious that this patient needed special attention. So, those concerns were expressed to a Cancer Center nurse, the social worker and a physician to see what could be done to help.

The team was able to arrange it so that this patient could be seen at the Abbeville location of CCA, saving the patient from having to travel to Lafayette. The love Catherine had for a patient over the phone triggered the staff into action, helping improve a patient’s situation. Catherine demonstrates how care begins with each employee.
